In 1908, at the beginning of the new Panama, José Varela Blanco not only changed his country, but also changed his mind.

A well-known adventurer and explorer, he left his hometown of Betanzos, Spain, to travel to the Americas, where he finally settled in Pesé, Herrera province, Panama.

He established the country's first sugar mill and gave his children the freedom to start making the best runs in the world.

Rum Abuelo uses a type of continuous and controlled fermentation for approximately 48 hours. The molasses are fermeted for the more complex runs and sugar cane juice for the lighter runs. At the end of the process, it's obtained a ""wine"" of 7-8% vol.
